Words Fitly Spoken

Tradition and Wisdom
Teaching and Learning:
Wisdom and Discernment

Proverbs 25:11-15

The Message

11-12 The right word at the right time
is like a custom-made piece of jewelry,
And a wise friend's timely reprimand
is like a gold ring slipped on your finger.

13 Reliable friends who do what they say
are like cool drinks in sweltering heat—refreshing!

14 Like billowing clouds that bring no rain
is the person who talks big but never produces.

 15 Patient persistence pierces through indifference;
gentle speech breaks down rigid defenses.

For Reflection

Oh how we painfully agonize over the right thing to say and the right time to say it!  The reason strategizing words of wisdom are so difficult is that we do not know all that we need to know to make a rational defensible decision.  The truth is that the "right word at the right time is not our decision to make.  It belongs to those who respond to our "wisdom."

Just being our God-centered selves is enough.  Love as you would be loved.  Walk the walk with Christ at you side.  Be patient, God will work through you.

Pray
for patience.  Pray that your actions reflect the God of love that resides within you.  Pray that your listening ears speak louder than you lips.
