Romans 13:8-10 (The Message)
Love, for the Day is Near
8Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. 9The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself."[b] 10Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.For Reflection: What is a "continuing debt to love?" To whose love do we owe a debt? Yes, God, but who else has touched our lives in love, perhaps when we deserved it least? To fulfill this commandment one must first love one's self. Take stock. God loves you, so you must be worthy of such love. To what extent do others have a continuing debt to your love? To what extent do you extend your love to others?
Pray that your actions clearly reflect God's love for you. Pray to act out of a debt of love to God. Love as God loves you.
