Let Justice Roll like Water

God is Just and Merciful

Jesus Teaches about Justice

Amos 5:18-24 The MessageTime to Face Hard Reality, Not Fantasy
18-20 Woe to all of you who want God’s Judgment Day!
Why would you want to see God, want him to come?
When God comes, it will be bad news before it’s good news,
the worst of times, not the best of times.
Here’s what it’s like: A man runs from a lion
right into the jaws of a bear.
A woman goes home after a hard day’s work
and is raped by a neighbor.
At God’s coming we face hard reality, not fantasy—
a black cloud with no silver lining.
21-24 “I can’t stand your religious meetings.
I’m fed up with your conferences and conventions.
I want nothing to do with your religion projects,
    your pretentious slogans and goals.
I’m sick of your fund-raising schemes,
your public relations and image making.
I’ve had all I can take of your noisy ego-music.
When was the last time you sang to me?
Do you know what I want?
    I want justice—oceans of it.
I want fairness—rivers of it.
    That’s what I want. That’s all I want.

For Reflection

If you are not speaking or working against injustice, then you are an accomplice to it!

Is your god so self-absorbed that god needs your adulations?  Does god need your gratitude? Does god need your supplications, your empty promises, your false repentance? Do you think that God created humans to fulfill God's desire to be idolized?

God created you and I so that we could live a life filled with the beauty and joy of God's essence. And all we have done is muck it up!

And yet, God has moved us forward. Although it may not look like it, we are drawing closer to our potential each day.  Through the capacities to create, wonder, and explore God's universe we have experienced significant strides. Our lives are much more comfortable now than they were one hundred years ago. We have shown that the awesome power of love can help us transcend our sufferings. Yet, we have not yet managed to distribute the progress equitably. There are still massive discrepancies in economic, social, and political conditions. For the love of God, let us create songs of justice and rivers of fairness.

Pray

Pray with your heart and your feet.
