Holy Family Settles in Nazareth

Faith in Action

The Early Church Proclaims Faith in Christ

Faithful Seekers of the King

Matthew 2:19-23 The Message

19-20 Later, when Herod died, God’s angel appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt: “Up, take the child and his mother and return to Israel. All those out to murder the child are dead.”
21-23 Joseph obeyed. He got up, took the child and his mother, and reentered Israel. When he heard, though, that Archelaus had succeeded his father, Herod, as king in Judea, he was afraid to go there. But then Joseph was directed in a dream to go to the hills of Galilee. On arrival, he settled in the village of Nazareth. This move was a fulfillment of the prophetic words, “He shall be called a Nazarene.”

For Reflection

God lead the holy family to safety in Egypt and now he leads them back into God's service as Nazarenes. God prepares our way and protects us as God has prepared the way and protected Jesus and his family.  We, like them, are called into a service in the Kingdom of God as witnesses to the power of God's grace and to serve each other with the love that God has for us. We are asked to go where other's fear to tread. We are asked to act on the promise of God in faith where reason and reliance on one's self alone cannot go.

Pray

Pray so that you can develop unwavering confidence in the grace of God. Pray that with trust in the Holy Spirit, you will witness to the Christmas message every day.
